Bay’s Mystic Krewe of the Seahorse rolls on Lundi Gras – 2016
Grand Marshal Vince Vance, of Vince Vance and the Valiants, led the parade of 60 entries for the two-mile trek from the Depot District to Main Street and through Old Towne.
The theme for this year’s parade, The Mystic Krewe of the Seahorse Toasts Bars of the Past, set the tone for some very colorful golf cart decorations as members and non-members captured the spirit of familiar bars such as The Dock of the Bay, Knock Knock, The Fire Dog, The Broke Spoke and many more.
“This parade is such an asset to the community,” said Amy Covington, owner of Flair, a gift shop in Old Towne. “In fact, today at work we had a lot of tourists in town, specifically for this parade. It’s something different on the Coast with the golf carts. People love the small town feel of Bay St. Louis. And it is such a fun parade.”
King Oceanus III Jim Wyly and Queen Tethys Yuki Northington shared a toast with members of the krewe, following a blessing from Father Bracken of St. Augustine Seminary and pre-toast presented in French by Katie Wyly.
“It is growing to become one of the family favorite events of the Mardi Gras season” said Bay St. Louis mayor Les Fillingame. “People come from all over the Coast with their families, and they enjoy Bay St. Louis.”
“Locals love it as well,” added Covington. “It gives everybody something to do on the day before Mardi Gras.”
Following the parade, Vince Vance and the Valiants were scheduled to close out the Lundi Gras festivities with a performance and dancing at Buoy’s Bar.
